Governance

Our governance structure consists of our members, trustees, and academy governing bodies that work in a coordinated way through our detailed scheme of delegation.

Trust Governance

The L.E.A.D. Academy Trust Board is legally responsible for the performance of each academy and each trustee is appointed by the Member Board. The Board of Trustees consists of a portfolio of experienced professionals that are accountable for the performance of the Trust and its academies. To fulfil these responsibilities locally, the Board appoints Academy Governing Bodies (AGBs) to ensure effective local governance. The AGBs have delegated governance responsibilities in accordance with our Scheme of Delegation.

In summary AGBs provide challenge, support and oversight at academy level and have delegated responsibilities in relation to:

  • upholding the principles of the Trust;

  • establishing an ambitious local vision for the academy;

  • academy performance;

  • school improvement;

  • safeguarding.

Through the Scheme of Delegation, the Trust utilises the skills and expertise of AGB members to provide effective governance appropriate to each academy’s unique context.

  • L.E.A.D. Academy Trust is required, by law, to carry out gender pay gap reporting under the Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017. This involves carrying out six calculations that show the difference between the average earnings of men and women in our organisation, but does not involve publishing individual colleagues’ data.

    We are required to publish the results on our own website and to a government website annually, where the results from other organisations can also be viewed.

    We can use these results to assess the levels of gender equality in the Trust in relation to the pay balance of male and female employees at different levels.

    Gender pay reporting requires us to make calculations based on colleague gender and their pay during March each year. We have done this by using our existing payroll records.

  • We are committed to conducting our business with honesty and integrity, and we expect all staff to maintain high standards. However, all organisations face the risk of things going wrong from time to time, or of unknowingly harbouring illegal or unethical conduct. A culture of openness and accountability is essential in order to prevent such situations from occurring or to address them when they do occur.
